According to them, too much time spend in playing computer game can actually be harmful by over-stimulating a child's brain, and not providing the real human interaction children need to develop their reasoning and social skills. What is important is computer games should not stand as a hurdle between social interaction, physical activity and outdoor recreations.
Gluing on to heavy computer games can result in less interactive time a child has others including parents. They also develop more problems with attention, impulsivity, and mood control. However, such problems can be overcome with taking preventive
measures.
For a start, set and enforce a time limit as well as the programs a kid should play. A maximum of 30 minutes to one hour per day is sufficient for any kids. But make sure that this time period is divided into shorter periods of 15 or 20 minutes at different times of the day. Also, make sure that a grown up person is with the kids to give them proper direction till they master the game. This will also prevent them from getting too much engrossed in the game. You can also stimulate learning by making comments and asking questions about what they do.
Offering rewards for not watching TV and turning their attention to other things such as playing outside and encouraging outdoor activities can prevent the kids getting addicted to computer games and save them from its side effects. Reading books is a very important part of your toddler's life. It encourages and enhances their imagination. It's also fundamental for their language development.
According to specialists, kids under two years do not actually benefit anything from computer games. It may in fact turn out to be bad for them. As for kids between two and five years they recommend a time span of 30 to 45 minutes a day for maximum benefits.
When choosing a good toddler computer game, pick one that will be engaging for the child and entertaining also for the adults. Toddler computer games are supposed to be played with the parents as initial guide until the kids are able to play the games by themselves.
