Gateway System Recovery (GSR) is a backup solution for Gateway computers. At the heart of this solution is a 2nd partition on the hard drive where files necessary to reinstall the software that came with the computer are saved.

In addition to this recovery partition, users can create a set of discs that act as a secondary backup in case the recovery partition becomes damaged or corrupt. There have been several revisions of the solution and each revision has slightly different implementations.

You must go for drivers and software documentation for specific information on the solution that shipped with your computer. To access this documentation, select your computer type below then select your model.

When you have located your model, click on the drivers and software installing link, and then follow the instructions for gateway system recovery. Depending on the availability of the system restoration CD you need, Gateway may be able to provide backup media for your computer.

You can use Microsoft systems restore to roll back your system to a previous condition when drivers and programs worked correctly. Before using Gateway system recovery, you should try Microsoft system restore to determine whether you can restore your system to a previous condition.

You can perform a partial recovery by recovering specific files, such as device drivers and most preinstalled software before you can go for main recovery or backup system.

If you need to recover software that did not come preinstalled on your system, you need to follow the software own instructions for installation. You can recover specific files using either the Start menu or a driver and application recovery disc that you have created.

Because of virus and spyware activity on the Internet, you should disconnect all internet connections before recovering your system. After you recover your system, you can reinstall antivirus and firewall software, and then again enable the internet connection.
