Based on the two of the most popular professional wrestling brands, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 is a must-have for any avid wrestling fan. While this is definitely not the first WWE wrestling video game that has been released in the market, it is a far cry with all the added features which has been included in the game.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 still contains the standard game modes such as the Inferno Match and Tag Team match. On top of this, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 now features four new game modes. The first of which is the Create-a-Finisher mode. Here, players are able to customize his or her character's finishing move by selecting and combining up to 10 out of over 500 different movements commonly seen in WWE SmackDown and WWE Raw. All of these finishing moves that have been customized begin with the character standing up. On top of this, players have the ability to select on just how fast or slow the movements would be for the finishing move that is being customized.

The second game mode that has been added to WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 version is the Road to Wrestlemania. Here, players are able to live the lives of any of the five wrestlers complete with a story line and cut scenes that have been made especially to fit the selected wrestler of the player.

Then there is the Career Mode which has replaced the General Manager mode from the 2008 version. Here, players are able to create their own character and slowly make his or her way up the rankings to become the champion wrestler of the world. The Multiplayer mode allows you to play and compete against other wrestling fans.

But perhaps the best thing about the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 video game is the refinements that have been done on the Tag Team Match Game mode. The enhancements that have been included in this game mode now allow more options for a player to tag his character's partner. The enhancements have also provided both players a more active part in the game whether they are in the ring or not. For instance, a player who is outside of the ring has the ability to do a forced blind tag in order for the player to be able to get into the ring. Also the partner can now hold the opponent from outside of the ropes of the ring, allowing the player a chance in winning the match.

All in all, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is the closest one could get to the real action that happens within the ring. It is no wonder why avid wrestling fans have been giving this video game nothing but a two thumbs up.
